Scale-free networks may not necessarily witness cooperation

چکیده
Networks with a scale-free degree distribution are widely thought to promote cooperation in various games. Herein, by studying the well-known prisoner's dilemma game, we demonstrate that this need not necessarily be true. For very same sequence and distribution, present variety of possible behaviour. We reassess perceived importance hubs network towards maintenance cooperation. also reevaluate dependence on clustering assortativity.

Enhancement of cooperation in highly clustered scale-free networks.
We study the effect of clustering on the organization of cooperation by analyzing the evolutionary dynamics of the "Prisoner's Dilemma" on scale-free networks with a tunable value of clustering. We find, on the one hand, that a high value of the clustering coefficient produces an overall enhancement of cooperation in the network, even for a very high temptation to defect. On the other hand, hig...

متن کاملTopological conditions of scale-free networks for cooperation to evolve
Evolutionary game theory is employed to study topological conditions of scale-free networks for the evolution of cooperation. We show that Apollonian Networks (ANs) are perfect scale-free networks, on which cooperation can spread to all individuals, even though there are initially only 3 or 4 hubs occupied by cooperators and all the others by defectors. Local topological features such as degree...
متن کاملEvolution of cooperation on scale-free networks under limited resources
Limitation of resources has been recently introduced as a mechanism for the survival and coexistence of cooperators with defectors in well-mixed populations. Here we examine the same model on a scale-free network. A prisoner’s dilemma game on a scale-free network has shown coexistence of cooperators and defectors for the entire range of parameters. Our results show that by introducing the netwo...
متن کاملCooperation in scale-free networks with limited associative capacities.
In this work we study the effect of limiting the number of interactions (the associative capacity) that a node can establish per round of a prisoner's dilemma game. We focus on the way this limitation influences the level of cooperation sustained by scale-free networks. We show that when the game includes cooperation costs, limiting the associative capacity of nodes to a fixed quantity renders ...
